Handset sales in Kenya up by 200%
A new report has revealed that mobile handset sales in Kenya have risen by 200% since the Kenyan Government chose to slash the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) levied on mobile handset sales in 2009. Kenya will soon benefit from a link to its fourth undersea fibre-optic cable. The cable, named the Lower Indian Ocean Network 2 (LION2) has been funded by France Telecom and will further enhance the capacity of the Kenyan communication network. (more…)

Yu Kenya has played down reports that it was planning to sell off its local operations after failing to conclude the intended acquisition of Warid Telecom in Uganda and Congo.
