Second award in a month

The award follows the company’s victory in the Innovation in Messaging category at the 160 Characters Mobile Messaging Awards last month.

Message Optimiser transforms basic phones

The Message Optimiser system bypasses the need for fixed telephone line Internet access, PCs, expensive subscriptions, smartphones, Java downloads and data connections to provide email, online chat, instant messaging and social networking to even the most rural communities in Africa. It transforms even the most basic SMS-enabled device into a virtual smartphone.

Jeremy George, Chief Operating Officer for ForgetMeNot Africa, said: “This coveted award recognises our continued efforts to bridge the digital divide that exists within Africa. We have already made significant progress by providing more than 47.5 million people in east, west, central and southern Africa with access to internet messaging on any SMS-capable mobile phone. We are constantly striving for further expansion and hope to enable Facebook, email and online chat on every mobile phone on the continent.”

ForgetMeNot Africa was also nominated for the Best Technology Innovation Award for its eTXT Facebook service provided to Econet Wireless Zimbabwe at the Meffys Awards.
